Music Highlight: Grind Theory

I've been in a bit of a rut this week. I wanted to do something amazing for Fashion Friday. I wanted to have something for you guys that would really knock your socks off. And then I got an amazing friend request on Facebook.  We have no mutual friends...PERIOD. He is out of Atlanta, GA.  As always he posted a link to his music on my page and I was going to delete it, but I listened to it.  It was like Robin Thicke and Prince met in Studio 54 and had a baby. And named him Grind Theory.

Residing in Atlanta, this New York Native has taken his own personal spin on music by producing and writing for himself and coming up with his own eclectic sound that will put those stillettos in dancing mood.  Did I mention how handsome he is?? Puerto Rican and Jewish, this 80's baby has his first album due to release this summer.

He wants to be a "breath of fresh air" when it comes to music because he feels there is to many cry babies out there in the music industry and he wants to change that. He describes his sound as a mixture between 70's, 80's, soul and pop and 90's alternative rock. Whew...what a mouthful that was, lol.  He is pretty funny to me.  Also because I love positive people trying to make a difference and do something different.

HE'S COMING TO JACKSONVILLE!!!!!

After speaking with him and his ever-so talented staff, he will be performing for the March of Dimes charity event fashion show in May.

WANNA KEEP TABS??

You can also download the songs he currently has all over, check out his upcoming tour dates (which looks to me like March-May is booked, lol) and you can see him in Photog Action.

HAPPY LISTENING!!!

Vintage Monday: Dorothy Dandridge CONTEST!!!!!!

Everywhere all the time I am watching a fashion show or walking through local boutiques I see more and more the Roaring 20's and then all the way up to the 90's.  Everything is coming back and with a bang.

I wanted to start Vintage Mondays to recognize some classic women of our past and present that have had an impression on me and have really shown me that its okay to be a lady.

I  present to you:

DOROTHY DANDRIDGE

We know her as Carmen Jones. Swinging onto Joe (Harry Belafonte) like she had to have him, only to die at his hands because she didn't want him anymore. Isn't that typical?? Once you get what you can't have, you throw it away and wonder why he becomes a stalker, lol.....hmmm Anyways, she was the first African-American Woman to grace the cover of Life Magazine, First African American Woman to be nominated for an oscar as Best Actress, was a model housewife in the 40's and her style and grace gave every man a run for their money.

CONTEST!! CONTEST!! CONTEST!! CONTEST!! CONTEST!! CONTEST!!

Dorothy Dandridge appeared on the cover of the November 1, 1954 issue of Life, photographed as Carmen by Philippe Halsman. I want to see what you would look like on the cover or Life

Mean Shoe Game

These days everything is virtual. You literally don't have to leave your home for anything. I am one that enjoys this because I don't have time to get the boys ready and go to the mall. Only to find out that parking is horrible, I have to put another $10 worth of gas in the car and of course I never end up going to the store that I want to anyway because the boys want EVERYTHING!! When I get home I find that everything that I bought wasn't even worth the travel.

I have been a client of Just Fabulous since July 2011. I found out that Kimora Lee Simmons became the creative director and instantly became excited. I love her rise in the fashion game and it really has empowered me to keep dreaming my big dreams.  So this month I had the opprotunity to recieve 3 free pairs of shoes from all the referral credits that I had which is awesome. If you refer someone to your style site and they make a purchase, you recieve one credit. One credit equals One pair of shoes for FREE. And even though it was free I still recieved them in 4 days.

Marguerite

Avril Lavigne has just launched her own shoe collection with Just Fabulous called Abby Dawn with the slogan Unleash Your Inner Rockstar. I got a pair of Ballerina Flats which I love and have been sporting since the day they came in the mail. You can see them in my youtube video.  To make purchases on the website, visit http://www.justfab.com/invite/NinaMoor/

Fashion Fridays: DOUBLE VISION/SPECS ARE SEXY

All the Hot Girls wear glasses: Olivia Munn, Scarlet Johansson, Jessica Alba and of course the beautiful and fabulous Diane Keaton. Now even the two youngest Kardashian sisters have been spotted wearing various pairs of glasses.  It seemed to me like all the nice frames were prescriptions and I have 20/20 vision and if I have to take the lens out they would be worn, until I stumbled upon a great gold min in Cali.

Since I am a lover of all accessories, while I was in one of my networking groups on Facebook, my friend Lucii started posting pictures of these really cool glasses, shades and accessories in various shapes, colors and fabrics.  Jaw dropped and speechless (highly unusual for me, lol) I sent her an inbox right away trying to figure out how to order and get some and the prices. She is sooo loving!!!

All the glasses and shades range from $7 to $10 and they all have a UV Protection of 400. So you are protected from the sun and at a great price. I cannot wait to get the rest of them because I need them in my life.

I have been wearing them all over Jacksonville, Fl and people are really digging them.

$7

$9

The last ones I also really dig because the remind me of my Nana alot. Wing tip glasses with rhinestones on the wing.  And they came the same day as mine from Lucii so I just compiled them together.

$5.99
To place orders with Lucii and to see what other accessories that she has Please check her out on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.326603490725052.88858.100001262111641&type=3 and let her know that I sent you. She may have a special gift for you.

ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR WEEKEND!!!

Fashion Friday: OCC, Skincare and Baubles

I love Fashion Friday!!! It's my favorite day of the week. It's a time where we can catch up on everything and just chat a bit.
OCC Cosmetics. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is a 100% VEGAN and cruelty free line of cosmetics that make me want to melt. I just got 6 of their nail polishes and I am so happy with the results that it's ridiculous. The colors are eye popping and they go on very smoothly. I usually hate the drying time but it was INSTANT!!!

Wasabi, Chlorophyll, Cruising, Pool Boy, RX and Beta

The names are so dag on catchy. I also liked that the website was very easy and the colors are true to form. What is in the bottle will be on your nails. http://www.occmakeup.com.  The prices are really good and you just need a little bit. They also have a PRO discount for all my Beauty Industry folk.

NYX Cosmetics has trully grown on me. I like the jumbo eye pencils (chubbies) I was rocking my greens today so I used lime all over my lid and up to the brow as my base and placed my colors on top and it looked very nice.

NYX Jumbo eye pencil in Lime, Motives pressed eyeshadows in  emerald and pink gold.
The prices are really affordable which is great for us all. When I was putting it on it was very easy and it blended very well with just my finger. Jumbo pencils run about $4.50. They also offer a PRO Discount. www.nyxcosmetics.com. Of course I placed my Motives on top and they stood out nicely (better on the video). To check out more motives visit. www.moormakeup.com

For my baubles I like to shop in Fleming Island and it was great. The shop is called Posh and they have amazing upscale designer pieces at AWESOME prices. You can also shop online as well which is lovely.

Art Walk

So every first Wednesday of the month, downtown becomes an artistic mall.  You can shop for goods, listen to poets, rappers showcasing their lyrics, art from all different genres and the food carts are everywhere.

From the Landing all the way to Poppy Love Smoke it was a great site. Even my sons had a blast at Hemming Plaza and the Storm Troopers

While in Hemming Plaza we ran into Kia Flow and the BEDYNAMIK, LLC Crew. They were looking awesome last night and they also performed at the Adrian Pickett Art Gallery located in the Landing.

Ill Clinton was passing out free copies of ill Clinton Presents: Vol 1 to everyone last night and Chef Eddie asked for an autograph. AWESOME!!

Quick Photo Op with Diallo Sekou

I had to get one as well. Of course, Diallo made my logo for the lip balms that everyone loves....SOUL THERAPY!!!!

While we were in front of Poppy's we grabbed a quick drink and then spotted our friend Tacara. Please stop by Poppy's and grab the Blue Martini. It rocks!!

The lovely songstress Monica Monet also stepped out for Art Walk.

And of course we had to finish off the night properly with Al Pete and my sons rocking his signature "TO THE TOP!!!!" stickers on them. Amazing March Art Walk. (Vid below)

Make sure you guys attend the next Art Walk which will be the first Wednesday in April and bring the children. It is a very positive experience for all.

Wing Fling

Most of the time there is no true break from children. Their world oftentimes consumes you. Yesterday while running errands, we drove past Hurricane Wings, then made a u-turn. Excellent lunch date.

I instantly got excited when I walked in an heard Exodus playing. The patio was packed with people so we sat inside. Expeditious customer service and with a smile. With four different categories of flavors (ranging from calm before the storm to proceed with caution) the waitress was kind enough to give us suggestions and letting it be known that she is not a fan of the sweet stuff.

We decided on FOUR different flavors, the Garlic and Parmesan french fries and fried pickles. It was really good. The best part was that they gave us wet naps, lol. I love wet naps. And we still came home with a to-go box.

Garlic Parmesan /Coconut Mango Wings

Garlic and Parmesan French Fries

Thai Ginger and Garlic/Ancho Chile Lime

Visit Hurricane Wings in San Marco if you ever get the chance. They have specials for all the Gate River Runners. To check out the menu visit http://www.hurricanewings.com. You can find all the new items, flavors for your wings (traditional or boneless) and locations.

Product Review: Mixed Silk for Naturals

I went to Sally's last week for a comb. A COMB!!! And 30 minutes later I walked out with $45 worth of product. Isn't that how it always happens? For good reason though. I got to try a new product.

Silk Elements has created a new line ~Mixed Silk. The motto on the jar is Natural Curls for Natural Girls. I thought that was pretty cool considering the entire line was dedicated to relaxed, color-treated or damaged hair.  Everyone is trying to reach the natural girls.

Because I am trying to become more active in my co-washing, the first product I used was the Nourishing Deep Conditioner. You are supposed to leave it on your head for 3 minutes however I left it on there for 30 because I had tons of tangles.  I really liked the way that it made the tangles come out very easily. I rinsed thoroughly.

I then proceeded with the Leave-In Conditioning Creme.

I really liked this bottle because of the pump. I really don't like the upside down bottles. It can become very messy in the shower. It says use from root to tip and you can let air dry or blow dry with a diffuser. I let my naturally dry. I like this leave-in a lot because it didn't feel filmy to me. It was really non-greasy and It gave me a nice shine to my hair that I love.

And finally, the Curly Gel.

Now I am not a gel girl. I have found that I don't like it because it either leaves a white glaze on my hair or it is very sticky. I am very particular when it comes to my hair as every other woman is. However, I find that this one is nice and light. And instead of my hair scrunching up, it actually holds on to a little length while air drying.  So I would recommend if you are into gels.

I would say overall I still enjoy my natural products however this is a nice line for those who just want to buy something. Plus it came with a FREE gold shimmer bag (Valued at $35). I would highly suggest the Nourishing Deep Conditioner to help with detangling as I feel it serves a double purpose and for $7.99 it wasn't bad.
